Templates: Virtual Machines – KVM Hypervisor Status

Monitors included into Virtual Machines – KVM Hypervisor Status template

The monitors from this application template check overall KVM hypervisor status: running guests count, storage pool size, load averages, memory allocated for running guests, etc. The monitors from this application template collect most their data over SSH, hence the sshd daemon should be running on the host and the user from the provided credentials should be a member of ‘libvirtd’ group. The monitors from this application template obtain traffic usage stats over SNMP. More about templates.

Monitors description

Load average *100, 1min (enabled by default) Host load average for 1 min * 100. is popular metrics for UNIX systems, giving an idea of how much resources are used. It includes measuring usage for CPU, RAM and disk I/O. The load average doesn’t actually gives any precise measure of resources consumption, but a value that can be interpreted depending on actual resource usage (for example, every resource using/waiting for CPU core, adds 1 to average value). The general rule is: the less load average, the better.

Running guests count (enabled by default) Shows the number of guests machines running on the hypervisor.

qemu total CPU usage (enabled by default) CPU used by all Qemu processes, %.

KVM status KVM status.

Free memory Host free physical memory, MB.

Load average *100, 5min Host load average for 5 min * 100.

Load average *100, 15min Host load average for 15 min * 100.

Memory allocated for all running guests, MB Memory allocated for all running guests, MB.

Network state (default) Default network state. Replace ‘default’ network name to monitor another network state.

Pool free space (default), % Default storage pool free space in %. Replace ‘default’ pool name to monitor another pool state.

Pool size (default), GB Default storage pool size, GB. Replace ‘default’ pool name to monitor another pool state.

Pool state (default) Default storage pool state. 1 is OK. Replace ‘default’ pool name to monitor another pool state.

SNMP Traffic Speed Total host traffic speed on the default interface, kbit/s. Collects data over SNMP.

SNMP Traffic Volume Total host traffic volume on the default interface, MB. Collects data over SNMP.

qemu total memory usage Memory used by all the Qemu processes.
