Getmail is a mail retrieving agent – script implemented in Python, developed as a flexible replacement for fetchmail. The script allows fully automated retrieval, processing and delivering of the mail, thus allowing, among other uses, simple mailbox migration and maintaining mailboxes backups.
Getmail is also immune to buffer overflow vulnerabilities; its ease of use makes it a good tool to perform various forms of mailbox contents monitoring.
