When its value is set to topoMessages(2), the agent searches for the topology messages (interhub and bridge messages). When the value is macFind(3), the agent searches for the MAC addresses defined in the item ethTopMACFindList. The results of the search are then reported in ethTopMACResultTable. When the value is swBackboneMsgMonitor(4), the agent monitors messages with specific destination address. The result of monitoring is reported in ethTopMessageResultEntry. The value of this item cannot be changed from one state to another without being first changed to idle(1). This item is timed by TopDiscoveryTimeOut (return back to idle(1)).
