This is a status byte. it indicates the state of the port as far as software is concerned. A port which may only carry a single station can possibly be in one of two states: no-connection (1) waiting-to-open (2) active-connection (3) A port which may carry either a Tau or a single station can possibly be in one of the following states: no-connection (1) getting-config (4) initializing (5) pre-active (6) active-connection (3)
