If we have 500 devices, does IPHost ping all devices at the same time and log the data? Or does it ping 1 device at a time and log it?
Q: We are looking into your product and would like some more information on how your ping monitor works. If we have 500 devices, does it ping all devices at the same time and log the data? Or does it ping 1 device at a time and log it?
A: One monitor should be created for each device (so there will be 500 PING monitors). Monitor polls the device periodically at certain interval (for PING monitor default is 30 seconds and can be changed).
One poll sends up to 3 ICMP Request packets (pings). Once the ICMP Reply is received the response time is calculated and used as a current performance value for the monitor to be logged. So, the percentage of the packets lost is not calculated and not logged.
If ICMP Reply is not received after 3 requests sent, the poll attempt is considered unsuccessful.
Thus, IPHost pings all the devices at the same time, meaning that each device is pinged independently.
